Theater Makers: Building the World We Want

This research cluster is co-convened with Lisa Marie Rollins (Assistant Professor, Performance Play & Design), Dr. Dorothy Santos (Assistant Professor, HVAC), and Marina Magalhães, (Assistant Professor, Dance, Performance, Play & Design).

This cluster is a co-creative praxis and research initiative to engage with visionary, justice oriented world building through indigenous, diasporic technologies of making for the theater stage and other performance oriented articulations. This initiative supports faculty and graduate student research, curates artist residencies, a new performance and play incubator and artistic design think tanks, and cooking together. This cluster prioritizes global majority and equity-oriented artists working on the stage.

The Theater Makers cluster works inside THE IRIS LAB, led by Professor Rollins. The IRIS LAB is a space of inquiry, intervention, and creative empowerment that advances UC Santa Cruz’s ambition to become a model of anti-racist, decolonial forward creative practices that serve American theater and beyond. We serve the UC community, local, national and international artists who strive to utilize their worldmaking skills to create a more just and compassionate world.  If you are interested in our work, please email lirollin@ucsc.edu
